The Ranch is located in the high foothills of the Rocky Mountains 17 miles west of Nanton. The country is lush and picturesque and home to the grass operation of the Sears Group. Jeff and Dode Sears make their home here in the hills. Hal Sears the patriarch of the Sears family also still lives here in the original home.
Each season between May and October the lighter end of the backgrounded cattle from the Beaver Kamp and Mesabi feedlots are run on the grass here. The number of head will be adjusted based on the condition of the grass (moisture) and the timing of the seasons. Jeff Sears is the cattle manager for the Sears Group and he works with one fulltime assistant. Cowboys from the other feedlots or neighboring ranches will assist with larger cattle moves.
The grass operation also takes in the Waldron Grazing Co-op which is located along Highway 22 south in the Porcupine Hills. The Sears group will run approximately 1000 head on this pasture from June to September each year. The cattle are trailed about 30 miles from the Stimson Creek feedlot over 2 days. This is one of the largest cattle drives in the area and is a spectacular trip for cowboys and guests.
